House Of The Dragon: Every New Dragon That Should Appear In Season 2 And Beyond

The Dance of the Dragons has commenced following the epic season finale of House of the Dragon. The entire series has been a veritable success for HBO as both the season premiere and finale drew groundbreaking viewership, numbers not seen since Game of Thrones. While there were some concerns early on regarding the pacing and jarring time jumps, it clearly didn’t deter interest in seeing dragons soaring and fighting on TV again.

Despite early reports from the showrunners that there would only be nine dragons featured in season 1, the finale surprised many, by introducing a tenth, Vermithor to join the likes of Syrax, Caraxes, and Vhagar. In total, there will be seventeen dragons in total throughout the series, so only seven should be coming in the future. However, in Fire & Blood and the text, there are eleven other dragons who take part in the Dance of the Dragons in one way or another. While some like Silverwing and Moondancer have been named outright, others are still lurking, waiting for recognition, but in total, these are all the dragons who could be introduced next season or further down the line.

Tessarion

For those familiar with the books, there was one big omission from the first season of House of the Dragon – Prince Daeron Targaryen. He is the youngest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent, and according to showrunner Ryan Condel, he is away in Oldtown with the Hightowers, with his dragon, Tessarion (via Variety). She is also known as the Blue Queen for her deep cobalt coloring and bright blue flames.

Tessarion is a younger dragon, being one-third the size of Vermithor, so in House of the Dragon, she might be comparable to Sunfyre or Seasmoke. Daeron will become known as Daeron the Daring for his actions during the Dance of the Dragon, all onboard his trusty dragon, Tessarion. Since he is a necessary introduction in season 2, so too is she.

Moondancer

Moondancer got a shout-out from Daemon as he was doing the dragon math during the season finale. She is a pale green and lithe dragon paired with Baela Targaryen, played by Bethany Antonia in House of the Dragon. Due to that fact, she is certainly one of the dragons who will be introduced in season 2.

Moondancer will be one of the smaller dragons, yet that will make her lithe and difficult to catch. Baela is a really cool and bold character who deserves more screen time going forward to show off what she is capable of, especially because she and Moondancer will land a very important blow by the end of the war.

Morning

As shown in "The Princess and the Queen," while Baela already had Moondancer, Rhaena’s dragon egg had never hatched, nor had it by the season’s end. However, in time, Rhaena does get a dragon. Morning is the real pink dread, a small dragon who would spend most of her time on Rhaena’s shoulder as Daenerys’ dragon did throughout Game of Thrones' season 2.

Morning was not used in much combat, so there’s a possibility that stories might be condensed and Rhaena might claim one of the other dragons Daemon mentioned. However, Morning should still hatch by the end of the series because Rhaena would be the last known dragonrider until Daenerys nearly two centuries later.
